HOME PERSONAL TRAINING GUIDE

Most of the personal training that I do is conducted within the client’s home. I very often carry with me equipment and devices to enhance the session or incorporate home equipment that the client might already have and wish to continue using.

Once a client expresses an interest an initial consultation is booked.

What To Expect At The Initial Consultation

The aim of the initial consultation is to assess present general fitness. To do this, physiological measurements are taken and a few tests conducted, then the results are recorded and used as a base reference to monitor progress.

What Physiological Measurements And Tests Are Performed

Blood pressure:
This will be taken with a sphygmomanometer, cuff and stethoscope. Blood pressure is taken as it can be improved as a result of exercise, also blood pressures outside the normal range are indicators of ones health status.

Body composition:
Will be assessed using bio-electrical impedence to estimate the amount of lean tissue that you carry, again this can be improved with the appropriate exercises.

Weight, height and hip measurements:
Will be taken using scales and a tape measure and are used as a simple indices of change.

Step test:
A three minute step test will be performed with the purpose of giving some indication of cardio-respiratory fitness.

Sit and reach test:
This is performed to obtain a measure of the flexibility of the lower back and hamstrings.

One minute sit up test:
This will be performed to measure the combination of strength and endurance of the abdominal muscles by counting the number of repetitions performed in one minute.

A visual analysis of body type will also take place.

In addition a discussion of the clients exercise preferences such as goals, likes, dislikes and barriers to exercise will take place. Also the client’s lifestyle needs to be examined, questions relating to occupation, current activity levels, and age need to be established. At this stage it is also necessary for the client to divulge any known medical conditions that might affect exercise i.e. asthma, high blood pressure etc.

There is no charge for the initial consultation as no training can begin until I have assessed the clients expectations and circumstances.

With all this information gathered from the initial consultation I can then design a personal, progressive exercise program that will best suit the client, taking into consideration their individuality and their life style. In my personal training I do encourage regularity and this is reflected in the pricing. However my main concern is that I help the client to achieve their goals.
